Quantum Speed™ believes strongly in supporting the growth of its players, whether at the recreational, elite or professional level, by guaranteeing they will “graduate” from their three-week Q3 or Q3i Programs better skaters than when they arrived. Quantum Speed also believes strongly in supporting the growth of their players as young men and women too and in “graduating” good citizens.
In the beginning, Quantum Speed was a small program and players who participated in the Q3 Programs wore their own jerseys to the rink. At the end of each three-week program, however, one participant was awarded a Quantum Speed Yellow Jersey to signify having graduated as a better skater and as a great representative of Quantum Speed. Much like the yellow jersey awarded to the race leader at the end of each stage in the Tour de France, the Quantum Speed Yellow Jersey was intended to signify the gold standard, something to strive for. Soon, though, it became apparent that this wasn’t really fair. Everyone who participated in a Quantum Speed Q3 Program left a better skater and a great representative of the program. Soon, in recognition of that, all participants were provided with a Quantum Speed jersey at registration check-in.
Among the myriad of coloured jerseys handed out at registration today, however, you won’t see yellow ones. The Quantum Speed Yellow Jersey is still reserved for special circumstances. Unlike the Tour de France now, though, this gold standard isn’t simply a symbol of being the fastest or the most skilled or of something to strive “for”. It is a symbol of something to aspire “to”.
In keeping with the desire to cultivate a culture of “graduating” young men and women who are good citizens, Quantum Speed now awards one Yellow Jersey at the end of each Q3 or Q3i Program. The Yellow Jersey is a symbol of those less tangible qualities that are indicative of a “good person”, an exceptional work ethic, a determination that leads to a marked improvement over the course of the three-week program, a demonstration of leadership both on and off the ice, a willingness to try new things no matter how challenging, or a personality that motivates others to be better. A player who receives a Yellow Jersey is one who has demonstrated admirable qualities that sets him or her apart and one who has proven himself or herself to be a unique ambassador for Quantum Speed.
Sometimes, this means no Yellow Jersey is handed out because the combination and commitment level of players on the ice is such that no single individual stands out. Still, you can rest assured that the Quantum Speed Yellow Jersey is a symbol of something to aspire to and that those who are awarded it wear it proudly knowing the depth of what it stands for. Yellow Jersey is one who has demonstrated admirable qualities that sets him or her apart and one who has proven himself or herself to be a unique ambassador for Quantum Speed.
So far in 2013, Yellow Jerseys have been awarded to Tyler Benson, Cayle Dillon, Jenn Gaudet, Dustin Gorgi, Ian McClellan, Alexa McMillan, Kacy McMillan, Peter Rice and Ryan Swier.
